The Best of Kill Devil Hills Beach

While neighboring Nags Head Beach may receive more acclamations than it’s Outer Banks brothers and sisters, Kill Devil Hills Beach is a sight to behold. The thin strand of sand draped up and down the coast of this history-laden beach town is perfect for long walks, surfing the celebrated Kill Devil Hills waves, and relaxing with your favorite cold beverage. There are public access points up and down the beach and over 15 lifeguard stations. All in all, Kill Devil Hills is a fantastic beach to soak in the beautiful North Carolina coast.

Tip: Make sure you check the water and riptide condition signs on the beach. Riptides in the Outer Banks can become dangerous, so be on the lookout and stay safe!

Other Kill Devil Hills Attractions

Wright Brothers National Memorial

The Wright Brothers National Memorial is the top attraction in the area aside from the beach. This marvelous monument pays tribute to the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright’s dream of flying came true in 1903. The combination of tall sand dunes, consistent wind, and wide-open spaces was the perfect recipe for the Ohio natives to conduct the first successful flight. A large obelisk stands atop the hill, and the visitor’s center highlights the achievement of flight.

Avalon Pier

If you want to get a change of scenery while you fish, you should head over to Avalon Pier during your time in Kill Devil Hills. This old pier is a great spot to grab some snacks, soak in the gorgeous views of the Atlantic, and fish to your heart’s content.
