November Weather in the Outer Banks

Temperatures can be a little chilly in November, but it can still be a great time of year to hit the beach with few crowds. Earlier in the month, highs can reach the upper 60s. Later in the month near Thanksgiving typically brings highs near 60. You might not want to wear your bathing suit out on the beach, but it’s a nice time to read a book as the sounds of the waves roll in. Plus, your kids will love running around in the sand with practically the entire beach to themselves. Lows are usually around 50 but can dip into the 40s.

Explore Roanoke Island Festival Park 

Adults and kids will love exploring the beautiful Roanoke Island Festival Park. This fantastic spot is home to some of the best fall activities in Manteo. You’ll find several attractions, including a representational ship from the 1585 English voyage to the island, a constructed American Indian town, and an English settlement site!

Annual Outer Banks Shrimp Cookoff

Chefs across the Outer Banks try and come up with the best shrimp dish appetizer in the region. For a weekend in November, people who would like to vote are asked to visit four participating restaurants and try the shrimp appetizer. After you’ve visited four, you vote for your favorite! Volunteers are located at each restaurant to assists voters throughout the weekend. Tickets are $25 a person, and a silent auction is also set up with proceeds from the event benefiting the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research.

Kites with Lights

Nags Head kicks off the Holiday season the Saturday after Thanksgiving with a light display you probably haven’t seen before! The event features 19 to 30-foot kites decorated in lights for the Holiday. It takes place at Jockey’s Ridge State Park where they first light the Solar Christmas Tree on the dunes directly across from Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. The event is free but takes donations for the Friends of Jockey’s Ridge.
